Ormond Art Studios are pleased to present ‘Checking In’, the first solo exhibition by 2019 Graduate Residency Award recipient Alex Keatinge. We would be delighted if you could join us for the opening reception on Thursday 26th September from 5pm. The exhibition continues Friday 27th -Sunday 29th September from 12-5pm daily.
‘Checking In’ is an exploration of bodily and mental tension and the trials and tribulations that exist within self-care. It is an attempt to capture self-consciousness and a hyperawareness of the body that often leaves a gap between the body and the self.
Alex Keatinge graduated with a BA in Visual Arts from IADT in 2019. She was longlisted for the RDS Visual Arts Awards and is the recipient of the Ormond Art Studios Graduate Residecny Award 2019. Alex’s practice begins at the boundary of the skin, it is concerned with the intimate space of the body – its oddities, sensations and discomfort. Through the creation of tactile objects and photographs that invite a bodily response, she investigates the gap between person and object, the hand and the artwork. Oftentimes her work is about exaggerating this gap in order to explore how something can be both familiar and strange at the same time and how this can also apply to the body. By using a method of reform and remove, she creates works that pace the line between knowingness and uncertainty.

Last night we celebrated Culture Night 2019 by opening our doors to the public! We had a record breaking number of visitors, and all really enjoyed the opportunity to share our work and have some really great conversations. Thank you so much to everyone who came out!

Congratulations to studio member Conor Nolan, whose piece “Underneath the Bridge” has been purchased by the National Gallery of Ireland for their print collection. Conor’s piece is a part of the Damn Fine Print Liffey Swim Collection: a series of nine screen prints by different artists, each celebrating the 100th Liffey Swim.
Congrats to member Clare Lyons whose print ‘bouquet’ which is held in the OPW State Art Collection will be featuring in this year’s North South joint touring exhibition with OPW and Department of Finance, Belfast (DoF) which is focusing on the theme of Still Life. It is entitled ‘Life in Still Life’ and has been curated by a group of 5 art educators from Northern Ireland who belong to the Association of Art & Design Education.
The first leg of the touring exhibition opens next Thursday in the Burnavon in Tyrone! Keep your eyes peeled for updates on this exhibition as it travels the country!
This month we welcome Olivia Normile back to the studio following a 3 month residency on the grounds of St. Patrick’s Park with Dublin City Arts Office. During the residency she explored the performative details in her work through interpretive scoring and sculptural ‘props’.

“Boon” is an art exhibition and celebration of the birth of a new creative space in Dublin called Studio 39.
Boon: noun (usually singular) something that is very helpful and improves the quality of life.
eg: the route will be a boon to many travellers
“Boon” is a celebration of the birth of a new creative space in Dublin called Studio 39. The exhibition will open on September 5th at 6pm at 39 Clanbrassil Street. The show which is curated by Kurb Junki will showcase 17 artists from different disciplines. The show will also run from September 6th to September 8th.

Damn Fine Print presents the launch of an amazing new show to celebrate the 100th Liffey Swim.
The exhibition featuring studio member Conor Nolan runs until the 13th August at Om Diva on Drury Street.

Portrait of Humanity is a new global initiative by 1854 Media, publisher of British Journal of Photography, in partnership with Magnum Photos. Portrait of Humanity serves as a timely reminder, that despite our many differences, we are able to unite as a global community through the power of photography, to create one of the greatest collaborative photography exhibitions in history.
Congratulations to Alex Keatinge who has been selected to receive our Graduate Residency Award for this coming September. Alex will receive a studio residency and peer mentoring in Ormond Art Studios for the month and all of this will culminate in a solo exhibition in the Ormond Art Studios Project Space.
Alex says: “My practice is concerned with the intimate space of the body – its oddities,
sensations and discomfort. My work begins at the boundary of the skin with the
curiosity in mind of how the body reacts when it encounters another body or object.
Through the creation of tactile objects and photographs that invite a bodily response,
I investigate the gap between person and object, the hand and the artwork.
